Patrick Songy was admitted to practice law in 2007. He spent his first five years as an Assistant Public Defender. Within his first year, he became a Division Chief and by his second year, Patrick began handling serious felonies, including mandatory life cases. During this time, Patrick obtained significant jury trial experience, along with working as appellate counsel and acting as liaison to multiple diversionary programs.

In 2012, Patrick transitioned to private practice, primarily working in the field of plaintiff’s personal injury at a firm focused on trial practice. During this time, Patrick enjoyed extensive training from many highly experienced civil litigators, completing coursework in several aspects of trial work in nationally recognized programs.

In 2012, I started litigating civil matters primarily in the area of personal injury. This time period provided me with very valuable education. I had the benefit of very good attorney mentors who taught me an enormous amount about trial craft, negotiation strategy, and many of the finer technical points of legal practice.

Patrick moved to Snohomish County in 2015, quickly becoming an active volunteer and starting his own practice which focused on family law and personal injury. Patrick came to Deno Millikan in 2016, where he continued his practices of both areas and added broader civil litigation experience. Patrick became a partner at Deno Millikan in 2019.

Patrick has acted as the President of the Snohomish County Bar Association’s Family Law Section multiple times. During his tenures as president, he began frequently presenting legal education seminars to other lawyers on many aspects of family law, frequently co-presenting with other subject matter experts. Patrick has continued his growth as a legal educator, developing a year-long program for new family law lawyers, and ultimately founding the Family Law Trial College in 2024.

Patrick is currently assisting author Elizabeth Turner with writing the Washington Practice Volumes on Evidence, Family Law, and Rules Practice – volumes that are relied on by practitioners and judicial officers throughout the entire state. Patrick has also presented to Washington Appellate and Supreme Court Justices.

In his practice of family law, Patrick has devoted significant amounts of time to the understanding of mental illnesses and how they impact family law. Patrick has worked with authors like Karen Bonnell (author of The Co Parent’s Handbook) and professionals like Bill Eddy, who specialize in conflict resolution in cases where mental health issues impact all aspects of the case.

Patrick also writes a family law blog called “Separation with Integrity” where he provides regular advice on different aspects of divorce and family law.

In addition to his other duties, Patrick frequently acts as a Commissioner Pro Tempore in Snohomish County Superior Court, where he presides over family law motions and protection order matters.

In 2025, the Snohomish County Bar Association named Patrick Attorney of the Year for his work
